Everyday Utility Apps Worth Keeping: MOD Tools for Files, Downloads and More

A download manager, file manager, storage analyzer, scanner and more: seven everyday tools sorted by the job they do, plus a sensible starter set.

Utility apps are the ones nobody talks about until the moment they are needed: a download fails at 90%, the phone says storage is full, a form has to be scanned tonight, or the gallery suddenly shows last summer's photos as if they were taken yesterday. Having the right tool already installed turns each of those into a two-minute job.

The seven picks below come from the Kingmodapk catalog and are organized by job rather than by category. We chose them because each one covers a common, everyday task, works mostly with files on your own device, and has a free version that tends to hold back its most useful options for paying users.

What we left out, and why

You will not find VPNs, firewalls, network traffic monitors or apps that read your messages in this list. Those tools sit between you and the internet or between you and your private conversations, and that is exactly the kind of software where the official build from the original developer is the sensible choice. The same goes for anything you would use to protect accounts or passwords.

Everything below is a plain tool: it moves, finds, scans, measures or calculates.

Download manager

A download manager for tracking, finding and resuming internet files, labeled Premium Unlocked. Resuming is the feature that matters: when a large file stops halfway because your connection dropped, a good download manager picks up where it left off instead of starting again.

Who it suits: people on unstable mobile data or public Wi-Fi, and anyone who regularly downloads large files and wants them in one place instead of scattered across browser folders.

RS File Manager

RS File Manager is a file manager with cloud access, advanced search, encryption and archive compression, in a Premium Unlocked build. It covers most of what people otherwise install three separate apps for: browsing folders, unzipping archives and moving files between phone and cloud storage.

Who it suits: anyone who handles documents, downloads and archives on the phone rather than only photos.

Keep in mind: cloud access means signing in to your cloud accounts inside the app. If that cloud holds important or work files, think about whether you want to sign in through a modified build, or use the provider's official app for that account. And if you encrypt files, store the password somewhere safe: an encrypted file without its password is usually gone for good.

Disk & Storage Analyzer

A storage analyzer with sunburst charts, deep folder navigation, file search and cleanup tools, offered as a Full Version build. The chart view shows at a glance which folders are eating your space, which is far more useful than a single "storage full" number.

Who it suits: anyone who keeps getting low-storage warnings and does not know why.

Keep in mind: look first, delete second. Large folders you do not recognize often belong to games or apps that store downloaded content there, and removing them can force a full re-download or wipe local progress. Start with obvious targets: old downloads, duplicate videos and files you put there yourself.

MobileScanner

MobileScanner is a document scanner with batch capture and image editing tools, labeled Premium Unlocked. Batch capture is what makes it practical for real paperwork: scan a multi-page contract or a stack of receipts in one go instead of page by page.

Who it suits: students photographing notes, freelancers tracking receipts, and anyone who still gets paper forms.

Keep in mind: scans of IDs, bank letters and contracts are sensitive. Keep them in a folder you control and delete copies you no longer need.

DevCheck Device & System Info

DevCheck is a hardware monitor with diagnostics, hardware tests and performance tools, in a Pro Unlocked build. It answers the questions that matter when choosing apps and builds: which processor and architecture your phone has, how much RAM is free, and what state the battery is in.

Who it suits: anyone buying or selling a used phone, and anyone who wants to know their device's specs before choosing an app build. If you only need a quick overview of CPU, RAM, storage, battery and sensors, G-CPU covers similar ground.

Image & Video Date Fixer

A media date tool that corrects image and video metadata and restores gallery order, labeled Premium Unlocked. It solves a very specific but very common annoyance: after moving photos from an old phone or saving them from a chat app, the gallery sorts them by the wrong date and years of memories end up jumbled together.

Who it suits: anyone who has just changed phones or restored a backup and found their gallery out of order.

Keep in mind: this kind of tool rewrites file information. Back up the photos first, and try it on a small folder before running it on your whole library.

ClevCalc – Calculator

ClevCalc is a calculator with scientific functions, photo-based calculations, history and unit conversion, offered as a Premium Unlocked build. It is the kind of app that replaces several single-purpose ones at once.

Who it suits: everyone, honestly, but especially students and anyone who converts units or checks numbers for work. If you travel or shop in other currencies, Currency Converter Plus is a focused companion.

A sensible starter set

You do not need all seven. A practical combination for most people:

  1. A file manager (RS File Manager) for everything you download or receive.
  2. A storage analyzer (Disk & Storage Analyzer) for the day your phone runs out of space.
  3. A scanner (MobileScanner) if you deal with any paperwork at all.
  4. One extra that fits your situation: DevCheck if you are buying a phone, Date Fixer if you just moved to one.

Fewer apps also means fewer background processes, fewer notifications and fewer permissions to keep track of.

Check permissions against the job

A good rule for utility apps is that every permission should make sense for what the app does. A file manager legitimately needs access to your files. A download manager needs storage and notifications. A calculator has no reason to ask for your contacts, and a scanner needs the camera but not your location. If an app asks for more than its job requires, deny it and see whether the feature you actually use still works.

Keep Google Play Protect on as well, and when it shows a warning, read it instead of tapping straight past it. FAQ

Is a download manager faster than my browser? It cannot make your connection faster. Its real value is organizing downloads and resuming them after interruptions, which saves time on large files.

What is safe to delete when storage is full? Your own downloads, duplicate media and files you recognize. Be careful with app and game folders you do not recognize, as they often hold content the app will need again.

Do I need DevCheck if my phone works fine? Not day to day. It is most useful when buying a used phone, troubleshooting, or checking your phone's processor and architecture before installing an app.
